Celebrate the Spring Equinox with 108 Sun Salutations, hosted by Yoga in Vietnam and Nomad Yoga Hoi An
Around the world, yoga schools are celebrating the Spring Equinox – the change in seasons – by doing 108 Sun Salutations.
Join us on Tuesday 20 March at 4pm to welcome the warmer temperatures, more daylight, and support the community as we bring together FIVE yoga teachers to guide you through the powerful practice of 108 Sun Salutations while raising funds for Jack’s Cat Cafe.
Some believe that doing 108 Sun Salutations ☀️ is a way of breaking out of the darkness that accumulated from the long, cold, and wet winter. It’s a way of “spring cleaning,” your body and your mind.
**OPEN TO ALL LEVELS**
Cost: by donation. We suggest 100,000 vnd or more.
🕉️ Why 108? 🕉️
108 is often considered a sacred number for a few reasons, some of which are:
– The distance between the earth and sun is 108 times the diameter of the sun, therefore, the number 108 is taken to represent the “distance” from the devotee to the divine.
– There were initially 54 sounds in the Sanskrit alphabet: 2 X 54 = 108
– There are 108 Upanishads, which are part of the oldest scriptural texts of Hinduism. They primarily focus on philosophy, meditation, and the nature of God.
– There are 108 names for Hindu deities.
🐱 About Jack’s Cat Cafe 🐱
As an NGO based in Hoi An, Central Vietnam Jack’s Cat Cafe is an extremely busy cat shelter which has found itself over capacity in recent months due to the floods and annual wet season. They work continuously to improve the welfare of cats in Hoi An and strive to increase the compassion towards animals, as well as educate the local community on the importance of desexing and immunising pets. Over a year ago, they opened up their home as a Cat Cafe which has proven to be successful and is becoming an increasingly popular visitor attraction for tourists. The sole purpose of the cafe is to raise funds for the cats, in order to feed and maintain a secure lifestyle for them. They don’t receive any government funds or support and rely on feeding the cats and sheltering all the animals from kind donations and their own private jobs. We’re excited to be supporting Jack’s Cate Cafe this Spring!
